2012 FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET AUCTION CONCLUDES

The  Peninsula Hokie Club concluded it’s annual auction of Hokie football season tickets on July 11.  This year we auctioned six instead of the usual four tickets.  Again this year there’s a happy Hokie in Roanoke, for the fourth year in a row, with west side 50 yd. line seats.

In addition, a Tampa Bay Hokie came up with the other four season tickets on approximately the 50 yard line as well.  Congratulations to the winners and thanks for supporting the Peninsula Hokie Club in our VTAF fund-raising activities!

2012 Football Season Ticket Auctions Underway!!

The club is auctioning six (6) Hokie 2012 football season tickets on Ebay in June and July. We will have three auctions, each for a pair of these tickets.

These seats are located on the west side of Lane Stadium in Section 12. Four seats are in Row R seats 19, 21, 23, 25 and the other two are Row Q seats 17 and 19. The 50 yard line runs between section 12 and 10; all these seats are approximately 45 to 50 yard line seats. The 3rd auction (now running) is for seats 17 and 19, row Q, in section 12. No parking pass is included in this auction..

The minimum bid for each pair of tickets will be $2,000. To order tickets in this location from the ticket office would require a VTAF donation of approximately $50,000 to $100,000. Payment for the winning bid must be made through Paypal where you may use your credit card if you don’t have a Paypal account. These are great seats. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see exciting Hokie football from these ‘primo’ seats this fall.

If you already have season tickets, please pass this info on to others who might be interested. Of course, proceeds from this auction will go to the benefit of the VTAF and will help the Peninsula Hokie Club fulfill it’s annual fund-raising goal.

Annual O&M Dinner and Golf Tourney Completed

On the evening of April 19, approximately 100 Hokies gathered at ‘Point Plaza at City Center’ to enjoy the annual Orange and Maroon Spring Dinner. Head Women’s soccer Coach, Chugger Adair, gave a very complete review of our up-and-coming women’s soccer program. After moving up from the assistant coaching role to the head job, he has continued to improve the program and has some big-time victories to show for it.

Although Coach Beamer did not make the trip, due to a weather-related shuffling of the Spring Practice schedule, Coach Cavanaugh stepped into the breech as the replacement and did an admirable job, as usual. Coach Cav pointed out there are some things at spring practice the head coach needs to be present for and that’s why Coach Beamer was not present. Coach Cav reviewed our returning players, top recruits, and the upcoming schedule. With an outstanding quarterback in Logan Thomas, a solid defense, and some young players stepping up, we are hopeful of another great football season.

May 8 was a beautiful day at the Williamsburg National Golf Club and 84 Hokie golfers showed up to enjoy the weather, the Hokie fellowship and compete for some outstanding prizes, all donated by our supporting merchants around the peninsula. The overall tourney winner of the captains choice event with a score of 53 was the team of Brian Grieff, Barry McKay, Ken Moyer, and L. Harden.  1st place winners in the three flights were: 1st flight – 56 – James Craft, B. Mowers, T. Mihalik, M. Mizuno; 2nd flight – 60 – Frank Seamster, Carolyn Seamster, Chris Seamster, Nick Re; 3rd flight – 61 – Jim Fike, Jimmy Fike, C. Hoyer, L. Presto. After a great picnic lunch, the winning teams selected their prizes and, in addition, a drawing resulted in every participant receiving a prize as well. As usual, the big winner from the event was the VT Athletic Fund. Thanks to everyone for supporting the Peninsula Hokie Club’s VTAF fund-raising effort.

1st Beer Gig Successful Despite Bad Weather

On the evening of May 5, at the weekly Hampton Fest, the Peninsula Hokie Club worked our first “Beer Gig” of the year in spite of the rain. Our ‘beer-poppin’ bartending efforts resulted in $205 in tips toward our annual VTAF fund-raising goal. Our Hokie team of Frank, George, Dale, Jo Rae, Emily, Natasha, Jaime, Tami, Reggie, Bonita, and John gave great effort to accomplish this result with the inclement weather. The cheerleaders on the front row “beaded” the fans into giving a little extra. Emily was most successful in “beading” for the tips.

Our next gig is June 30. We will be at the end of the street and at the mid-station where the beer is on tap. The band is Vinyl Headlights who play a variety of music including rock and roll, disco and metal. Check out their video.

As an aside, band leader John Smallwood was interviewed by Fox Cable News Neil Cavuto. Check out the video. Thanks to everyone for your support at this event.

Football Recruit Hi-Lights Excite Hokies

Approximately sixty Hokies showed up at Bailey’s Sports Grill on Feb. 7 for lunch and to view video hi-lites of this year’s recruits.  The event was sponsored by Mr. Bill Leong, State Farm Insurance.  The videos were narrated by Coach Jim Cavanaugh, who always adds to the interest with his ‘biting’ commentary and his answers to all the tough questions.  There are 28 recruits this year and, according to Coach Cav, several might have a chance to play this year, especially in the backfield with the loss of David Wilson and Josh Oglesby.  The areas hardest hit by graduation and the NFL are the offensive backfield, the offensive line, and our receiving core.  However, with a strong nucleous returning on the defensive side and Quarterback Logan Thomas, the Hokies in attendance are looking forward to another good season.
